I think everyone has a secret safe haven they like to go to forget their worries, if even for an hour or two. Not that I don't love my life but sometimes I want a break from the financial worries, where I'm going to send my toddler to school someday, losing these last stubborn 15lbs...yadda yadda yadda!
Well my haven happens to be across the country, just outside of Huntsville, Alabama at my parent's home. Completely inconvenient seeing as I live in Portland, Oregon, but completely wonderful.
Their house has 25ft ceilings and floor to almost ceiling windows. It's kept very clean and their decor style is comfortable and uncluttered. Good art on the walls and always good food on the table.
They live on close to an acre of land, where they recently planted a garden which we feast from almost daily and has a killer view of Lake Guntersville.
My trips consist of convertible rides through the country (my Dad always know the most scenic routes), finding absolute steals at thrift stores at least every other day and relaxing on their covered deck with the fans and mister a blazin'. My Mom and I fondly refer to this in our best NY accent as the "verrrrannndda". And of course best of all, my parents, sister and nephew get to bond and play with my sweet Juniper. It does this Mama's heart good.
Every time I come, I get rejuvenated to go home and be a better wife, Mama and pursue my endeavors with a newfound tenacity.
It's the setting and it's the people. I love Alabama.
